Love letter to my husband

We met through Match.com.  Yup.  More marriages than any other dating site? That one.  We emailed a few times, and talked about movies, mostly.  We liked the same few movies we had just watched, and so he said we should go see one together, why don’t I call him-and sent me his number.  I sat there in my extra bedroom on that old computer that weighed more than I did and wrote back saying no buddy, you call me, and sent my number.  I hit send and before I could move on to another site (old cable connection) my phone rang. We went to the movies that Saturday, July 31, 2004.  There was a blue moon.  We watched “The Village”.  We have been together ever since.  We have talked every day, we have never broken up, not even for an hour.

What we have is the kind of thing that, pardon the pun, happens once in a blue moon.  We truly enjoy each other’s company.  Michael likes to say we were married from day one, because we were like an old married couple right away.  He says that now.  Back then it was more like “Let’s wait and see.”  No joke.  Even though we were joined at the hip, and everyone could see we had something special, Michael waited 10 months to say “I love you.”  He waited 3 years and 8 months to propose.  I was patient because I knew we were right.  Righter than either of us had ever been before.  I am the old soul.  I am “wise” as he likes to tell people.  Turns out I am wise, and we are wiser together, and our daughter is turning one in a few days and her name is Sofia, Greek for wisdom.

Michael is the best man I have ever known.  He is kind like no other.  Yes, he is an asshole- but an accidental asshole.  He can be mean as a snake, but usually chooses not to be.  He is warm and hard working, and smart and open minded, and handsome and sexy, and and and…He is stubborn and self involved, and selfish and condescending, and has the worst OCD.  He is full of contradictions, the gentle Atheist, the anti consumerism capitalist, the list goes on and on. And he is funny.  So funny.  Smart funny, you know what I mean? And a great dancer.  So great he put some of my Puerto Rican friends to shame at our wedding reception.  Amazing!

People frequently ask how we can live out here in Dewy Rose.  Do we get bored?  How can we stand it!  We are doing just fine.  First, because we are the kind of people who never get bored as long as we have books and movies (and TV, for me of course).  Second, because we are fine with solitude.  And third, and more important than anything, we have chosen to spend life with the person we enjoy more than anyone else.  So it does not matter where we are, we are together.  And now we have meshed in Sofia, and she is the best of both of us: Watch out world! She will be a force to be reckoned with.

When I was pregnant I asked Michael to get me a milkshake while he was in town.  He didn’t.  He didn’t think it was THAT important, he was in a rush, yadda yadda yadda.  Aren’t these cravings a myth anyway?  He will never live it down.  He can be tone deaf, and unbelievably insensitive. I wanted a Kindle Fire for my birthday or for Christmas and I didn't get one.  But guess what cupid left me?  A Kindle Fire!  Just like all things Michael…good things come to those who wait.

So even though he gets on my last nerve, and wishes we could just put some cots in the greenhouse and spend ALL of our time there, he is by far the most amazing person I know.  He is so generous! I got him a watch for Valentine ’s Day.  He has a functional Timex, and a nice Swiss Army watch that he uses to dress up, except the battery died and it is a hassle to change it.  I got him a Citizen Eco Drive, because the battery won’t die and his response? “Who should I give the Swiss Army to?  I don’t need two nice watches…” That is my Michael.

I love you honey bunny!  You are my lobster…

PS.
I love my Kindle Fire!
